You are here: King Edward VI College > Governance > Joining the LGB

Joining the LGB

We are always keen to hear from individuals who may be interested in serving on the LGB. There are many reasons why this voluntary role might appeal. Your motivation might be to make a positive professional development step by enhancing your leadership skills, or you may have significant levels of expertise that the Board can benefit from.

An inclusive LGB composed of Governors who bring a diverse range of skills, experiences, qualifications, characteristics and perspectives will have a positive impact on setting the strategic direction of the College. The LGB therefore actively encourage volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures and perspectives in order to reflect the communities it serves.

Community Governor Opportunities

We are always interested in hearing from individuals who are interested in learning more about becoming a governor at the college. We are especially interested in individuals who live and/or work within travelling distance of the college, are from a range of backgrounds and can bring a diverse range of perspectives. The skills, knowledge and expertise we are particularly looking for at the moment include: accounting and financial audit, people development and employment law, local communities, curriculum development and student co-creation and environmental sustainability. However, we are interested in hearing from everybody who is interested in helping take us forward as a college.

You don’t need previous experience as a governor or trustee so long as you have time and enthusiasm to participate in Governor meetings and annual strategy planning and help ensure the best possible provision for KE6 students and staff. Information and training opportunities will be available to you.

The LGB meets approximately six times per academic year, normally on a Tuesday evening from 5pm-7pm. There are some additional meetings on different days, but there is always lots of notice. Governors also have the opportunity to help shape the wider Trust direction and approaches through membership of cross trust committees such as Finance, Audit, or Student Development.

This is a voluntary role although reasonable travel expenses are reimbursed. Appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check.
