David Butcher – Community Governor

David has lived in Nuneaton for most of his life since the age of 4 years old and attended King Edward VI Grammar School, Nuneaton and the Sixth Form College in its inaugural year (1974).

David gained his degree in English Literature from The Royal Holloway College (University of London) and his PGCE from the Institute of Education, (University of London).

Most of his career was spent teaching English at schools in the Midlands (Warwick and Tamworth) and King Edward V1 College from 1983 to his retirement in 2020.

In the final phase of his career he held the Post of Assistant Principal for 8 years and latterly took on a part time role in student recruitment for the college.

David is married to Ann and has 2 stepdaughters, one of which also attended the College.

A keen sportsman, David played cricket into his 40s and still plays golf regularly. He has had a season ticket at Leicester City FC for the best part of 50 years. Theatre, live music and cinema are also keen interests.

A regular traveller, David hopes to see many parts of the world he has not yet visited in his retirement. Whenever they can, David and Ann like to escape to the east coast where they own a static caravan in Norfolk.
