Short Story Writing

We will do lessons on the elements of short stories: Character, plot, setting, structure, and point of view. Then we will workshop the stories in a group and talk about revision.

What should students aim to achieve by the end of the course?

All students will complete and revise a short story.

Why should students select this LinC programme?

Students will develop the ability to exercise their creativity and develop the art of storytelling. They will also learn how to constructively critique others’ ideas and submit their own work for group critique (although I don’t know if I would lead with that as it might scare some kids off if they’re the ‘secret writer’ type). They will also work on the process of revision in detail and learn different methods for improving their work.
