“I am thrilled that so many students from King Edward VI have been successfully appointed to join our team of ThinkHigher Ambassadors. They will be working alongside undergraduate and postgraduate colleagues from University of Warwick and Coventry University on campus and in local schools. Our ambassadors are full of energy and enthusiasm and are already supporting Y9-13 students in the region to make informed and ambitious choices about their futures. ThinkHigher have created lots of opportunities for students in KS4 and KS5. These include a range of discovery days such as ‘Working in theatre’ at The Belgrade Theatre and ‘Making your message go viral’ in the faculty of business and law at Coventry University. We are also rolling out local projects within schools and colleges, such as spoken word, sports leadership and confidence building, alongside student to student mentoring. It is fantastic to have so many schools, students and ambassadors on board; it’s incredibly exciting to see the project really gathering momentum.” Claire Muttock, Raising Aspirations Co-ordinator, ThinkHigher Coventry and Warwickshire
What is ThinkHigher?
ThinkHigher is part of the National Collaborative Outreach Programme (NCOP) and is working with a cohort of students from schools across Warwickshire to help them to make informed and ambitious choices about their futures. Local schools and colleges have identified students who, based on their current academic performance, have the potential to go to university in the future and who also live in one of the identified postcodes. Postcodes have been identified using data showing neighbourhoods where progression to higher education is particularly low despite academic attainment being suitable for higher education. As part of NCOP, ThinkHigher aims to widen access and participation to higher education and address the under-representation in Higher Education institutions by breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for young people.
