To ensure our students receive the best on-site education from September 2020, we are putting in place several additional health and safety measures in line with government guidance. These changes will ensure that students and staff are safe when they return to the site in September. These include, but are not limited to:
Communal areas:
• Students are required to arrive at college with a mask and masks need to be worn whilst moving around the site (eg, on arrival and when moving through corridors and communal spaces).
• The college is conforming to the government mask exemption policy. Further details below.
Face coverings must be worn in any enclosed public space in England
The following are exempt-
o Children under the age of 11
o Those unable to put on or wear a face covering because of a physical or mental illness or disability.
o People for whom wearing or removing a face covering will cause severe distress.
o Anyone assisting someone who relies on lip reading to communicate.
• Entry to the building will be via the main entrance and exits will be via biology and the canteen.
• Toilets will receive more regular cleaning with anti-viral disinfectant.
• Corridors will be marked to inform students and staff to stay to the left.
• On completion of the final lesson/progress session of the day, students should make their way home to reduce congestion in communal areas.
Classroom management:
•Staff and students have free choice to decide if they wear masks in classrooms.
• Classroom doors will be open at the start of lessons to ensure students can enter the classroom and locate their seat without waiting in the corridor.
• Anti-bacterial wipes will be available for the student to wipe down their desk before learning commences.
• Lesson finish times will be staggered, this will ensure that classes leave at different times to ensure social distances (managed locally).
Social distancing:
• The timetable has been designed to restrict numbers on site, however staff and students are asked to stay 1m apart when travelling between rooms.
• Student numbers will be managed in other areas such as the library and study centre.
• Students who travel in on the Kingsbury Bus will have access to an area in the college where they can safely wait for their bus.
Catering:
• Markers on the floor will be set up to signpost staff and students accessing the catering outlets.
• Seating capacity will be reduced with recommended spacing for socially distance seating.
• Hand sanitising facilities will be available.
• All surfaces within the canteen will be regularly cleaned with anti-viral disinfectant.
• The college is exploring the possibility of only accepting cashless payments.
General advice:
• Wash your hands with soap and water regularly – do this for at least 20 seconds.
• Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available, additional facilities will be provided throughout the college.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze. Put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards.
• Avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of Coronavirus.
• Where possible try and remain socially distanced from other students and staff.
Please follow the guidance set out, the safety of everyone relies upon everyone being responsible for their actions.
