King Edward VI College in Nuneaton has achieved a 100% pass rate in the new linear A level subjects this year.
This year shows the first set or results for the new linear A level system introduced in 2015 and, despite a national drop in the reformed A level performance, for King Edward VI College every subject that has moved to this system achieved a 100% pass rate. 55% of students achieved an A*-B grade.
The college boasted 100% pass rate in 38 subjects including Maths, Politics, Geography, Music and Accounting.
The BTEC subjects also excelled with 100% pass rate in all 27 subjects and over 70% of students achieving high grades of Distinction* or Distinction, equivalent to an A* or A at A’ level.
Principal Uly Lyons said “We are once again proud of our students accomplishments. Through hard work and with excellent support they have achieved some very strong results across all area of the curriculum. As a college, we also work very hard to ensure our students have the knowledge, skills and outlook needed to be successful in their qualifications and are well prepared for the next stage of their career. “
Chris Herdman achieved an A*, A, A and B in his subjects and he is now going on to The University of York to study Physics. “I am now heading to an excellent University thanks to the teaching standards here. I have made plenty of friends as well and look forward to staying in touch with them all.”
2nd year students Lucy Astbury, Jonathan Flint, Melanie Grove, Katharine Haughian, Matthew Hunt, Sufyaan Khan, Benjamin Mackenzie, Adam Mills, Grace Rowles, Lauren Rumble, Matthew Stokes and Sophie Wright all achieved A/A* in all their subjects.
Lauren Rumble went to Higham Lane before joining KEC, she achieved straight A’s in all 4 of her subjects. “I am so relieved and happy with my results. At KEC I have gained a lot of independence which has translated through to my work and approach to A levels. I would like to thank my teachers so much for all their help.”
There are also a number of first year students who achieved straight A’s; Carina Barber, Laura Burn, Jonathan Cooper and James Edwards.
The colleges youngest student, Bethany Kinderman, who has recently turned 16, achieved an A in Law and a B in AS Government and Politics. Bethany was home schooled before she joined the college. “I am pleased that the hours of revision I put in and the help from my teachers has paid off. When I leave KEC I would like to go to Oxford or Bristol University to study Theology”
Approximately 75% of second year students will now choose to continue their education at University. Among them is Michelle Mukunga who is going to The University of Birmingham to study medicine. “I am very happy with the results I have achieved with the amazing support from all my teachers. The college atmosphere and friendly environment, plus the extraordinary support from my tutor was incredible. I will forever be grateful.”
Tia-Mae Surtees is off to The University of Bristol to study Law and Spanish after achieving 2 A*’s and a B. “I’m so happy about my results and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at KEC”.
Uly concluded “Results are very important, but what students do with those results after they leave us is also important. It’s really pleasing to see many of our students progressing to top universities and others gaining places on very competitive higher apprenticeships or full time employment. I’d like to publicly congratulate our students for their achievements and thank our staff for their continued hard work and dedication.”
