Apprenticeships

In response to the changing labour market and a demand from students we are excited by the increased number of apprenticeships available to students on completion of their studies at college.
We have a dedicated Careers Adviser in college each week, students are introduced to her and know that appointments can be booked for impartial information, advice and guidance.  Help with research into opportunities, selecting, applying and securing an apprenticeship is built into this service.

Students have the opportunity to talk through their options with the Careers Adviser, their Personal Tutor or Employability and Community Officer and create an action plan. Students are encouraged to make dual applications to universities and apprenticeships, as and when these are advertised, to be keep as many options open to them as possible.

Apprenticeships are advertised in college, on the KEC Employability twitter feed and students are supported by the Employability and Community Officer to write a top quality application or CV and are put through their paces to prepare them for interviews – we work closely with local employers to put on mock interviews and assessment days for students who are looking to enter the world of work.

We have strong links with a number of local businesses and training providers meaning we have a pipeline of opportunities for students coming to us direct from them.
