Course Overview

The sport and leisure industry is one of the largest employers in the world, offering a wide range of career opportunities. The Certificate in Leadership Through Sport will cover various aspects of this sector, developing your confidence in sport subject knowledge, leadership, coaching ability and team work. This is the course for you if you learn through a variety of practical and theoretical sessions. We give you the opportunity to learn new skills and put them into action. This flexible course is 100% assessed through coursework and practical tasks or projects.

How many hours per week?

Teaching contact time is 4 hours and 20 minutes per subject. Other workshops will be available throughout the year. Weekly, students are expected to complete a minimum of 4 hours of independent study to complete assignments, homework, extra reading and independent research.

Entry Requirements

The Level Three Foundation Programme has a consistent set on entry requirements for each course. Students are required to have already achieved a of 4,4,3 at level 2 (GCSE or equivalent)

What will I learn?

The Certificate in Leadership Through Sport, you will complete three units across the one academic year, these could be:

-Planning and Leading Sports Activities
-Nutrition for Sports Performance
-Business Skills in Sport
-Injury in Sport
-Lifestyle and the Sports Performer
-Planning and Running a Sports Event
-Psychology for Sports Performance
-Technical Skills and Tactical Awareness for Sport

What skills will I develop?

Overall, this course will help develop your inter-personal skills, help with building your resilience and self-esteem, this course will also build on your communicational skills and written skills and enhance your leadership qualities and team work in addition to taking ownership of your education, to name a few.

How will I be taught?

The BTEC course is predominantly split 50/50 in relation to practical and classroom based learning.

Classroom activities will include:
• Practical tasks to consolidate learning
• Interactive online quizzes
• Group based projects
• Research based tasks
• Group and class discussion on content

Practical activities will include:
• Teacher led practical sessions
• Student led practical sessions
• Sessions led by industry experts.
• Event organisation and management
• Analysis of sport performance

How will I be assessed?

Learners are assessed using a variety of styles to help them develop a broad range of transferable skills. This course is 100% internally assessed, Leaners will complete assessments using a range of different approaches, such as practical assessments, written coursework and presentations. Each unit has specified learning outcomes and assessment criteria and to pass each unit learners must meet all the assessment criteria.

Where will this course take me?

As part of a wider programme this course provides an excellent basis for progression on to a level 3 programme and then on to many careers or progression to HE courses. For example, former students of this college have successfully progressed on to HE to study:

-Sport and Exercise Science
-Sports Development and Coaching,
-Sports Business and Marketing
-Sport and Physical Education
-Physiotherapy
-Sport rehabilitation

Also, other former students have progressed into employment as teaching assistants, sports coaching and studied via the apprenticeships route in the sport and leisure industry.
