On Thursday 17th May, 6 months of hard work by our students culminated in a fantastic Art Exhibition and Drama Performance. This displayed work produced by our Art Foundation students and Patients of Mary Ann Evans hospice, the drama Afterthoughts was written by first year student Sophie Burton and performed by a group of drama students, and articles and research written by our LinC Journalist group to raise awareness about the 2018 Dying Matters campaign. The event was attended by more than 70 people from the local community. Dying Matters Awareness Week is a national initiative held every year in May, which provides an unparalleled opportunity to place the importance of talking about dying, death and bereavement firmly on the national agenda. In 2018, the week ran from 14 to the 20 May and focuses on asking “What Can You Do… in your community?”
King Edward VI College, Mary Ann Evans Hospice, Myton Hospice, Warwickshire North Clinical Commissioning Group, South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust and the George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust worked together to provide an innovative approach to raising awareness to the importance of matters for people when they are dying. Kay Greene, Director of Clinical Services for the Mary Ann Evans Hospice said “Working with the young people from the College for our Dying Matters Awareness Week project for 2018 has been inspiring and a privilege. Their commitment to the project and the work produced is of an outstanding calibre “

“It is a real privilege to be asked to take part in this year’s Dying Matters Awareness week. Our keen and enthusiastic students have taken the invitation to be involved with the collaborative project and excelled themselves. They have put together an event designed to get people in the local community talking about dying, it has been a fantastic opportunity for them to be involved. Our students have approached the topic with maturity and sensitivity.”
