We understand the importance of technology and specialised study areas, and we aim to provide all the facilities required by our students.
The Student Lounge

The Student Lounge is a new area created for students to use for multiple purposes.
If that be to study, relax and unwind or even socialise and meet new people. The room is typically furnished with comfortable seating, such as sofas and large communal tables, ideal for both group work and individual relaxation.
There are often areas dedicated to different activities, some students may be quietly reading or working on laptops at the front of the Lounge if they have free periods, while others chat or play games on our large T.V or table tennis in another area mainly on breaks and lunch. A games trolly is placed in the corner of the lounge so students can grab any of the board games or card games and play as they wish.
The walls have been decorated with student artwork which has been created by different groups in classes, during events or in enrichment activities. This includes posters, paintings, group canvas projects and a large noticeboard for upcoming events, adding a personalised touch to the space.
Course facilities

For many subjects, specialist equipment is needed. We provide all the necessary materials and equipment to help you get the most out of your course. From video cameras to art materials, we keep supplies fully stocked and available for you as required.
Sport

With our spacious gym and large playing fields we offer a huge range of sporting activities. See our Enrichment pages to find out more.
Cafe and Coffee Shop

Our cafe is open all day for students and staff. Offering both breakfast and lunch, as well as a hot drink menu and a variety of snacks. The canteen hosts a calm environment to sit inside during breaks or free periods.
Digital Hub – formerly The Library

The newly developed Digital Hub is a modern and versatile learning space designed with students’ educational needs at its heart. This large, purpose-built area now houses 84 permanent desktop computers, alongside a dedicated Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) zone for students who wish to use their own technology. The space is available for booking by our teachers and tutors to support the development of both subject-specific skills as well as broader IT literacy during students’ timetabled lessons.
The Digital Hub is divided into four zones: three designated for interactive teaching sessions and a fourth to facilitate group work.
Additionally, this space will be used for controlled assessments and digital examinations across all subject areas. These sessions are pre-booked as a priority, to ensure that students have access to the necessary resources in a calm and well-equipped environment.
These enhancements will enrich the learning experience and better support the academic and skills-based success of all our students.
The Progress Hub

This inclusive workspace, located at the heart of the college, is home to the Progress Team and the support team for Route2. It is a welcoming, student-focused space where all learners are encouraged to drop in for support, guidance, or simply a listening ear. Whether students need help with their overall progress, wellbeing, or planning their next steps, this central hub is designed to provide a calm, accessible environment where everyone feels supported and included.
The Unity Hub / Ken Loach Library

This is the college’s dedicated quiet study space, offering a calm and focused environment where students can access the Specialist Support Team. Designed to encourage concentration and comfort, it provides a peaceful haven for independent learning.
Close by, R Block serves as the college’s Wellbeing Hub, featuring two dedicated rooms: one for one-to-one support sessions, and another as a quiet space for times of dysregulation, where students can take a moment to reset in a safe, supportive setting guided by trained staff. In addition, R Block hosts a range of wellbeing workshops throughout the year, promoting mental health, resilience, and overall student wellbeing.
Rear Quad (outdoor area)

The rear quad, located at the back of the college near the new library, is a designated space available during break and lunchtimes, enabling students to come together and socialise. It also contains the college’s only permitted vaping area, clearly marked by a large canvas covering.
To maintain a safe and respectful environment for all, we kindly remind everyone that vaping is strictly prohibited in all other areas of the college. If anyone is found vaping outside of this designated zone, we reserve the right to confiscate and dispose of the device.
To support a calm and focused learning environment, we ask that both staff and students refrain from using the rear quad during lesson times.
