Another record breaking year for Sixth Form College.
This year has been one to remember for King Edward VI College in Nuneaton.
The college was awarded an Ofsted Good in June of this year and now has achieved its highest A level result on record.
The college was proud to announce the pass rate for A level this year was 99.2% with nearly half of students achieving an A*- B grade.
The BTEC subjects also excelled with 100% pass rate in all 24 subjects and over 77% of students achieving high grades of Distinction* or Distinction, equivalent to an A* or A at A’ level.
Vice Principal Tim Rogers said “The students at KEC have achieved another excellent set of exam results – our A-level pass rate is now at 99.2%. One of the main drivers of this success has been the consistent focus on the needs of individual students. Our excellent pastoral and teaching teams work with each and every student to ensure they perform at the highest level. I would like to wish each student well as they progress to the next stage of their career.”
83 students achieved an A*/A in two or more of their subjects. Notably second year students Jake Croft, Sam Orchard, Laura Smyth, Bradley Stanford and Jordan Tonks who got straight A/A* in all 4 subjects.
Sam Orchard is now off to The University of York to study Physics. He said “I am very excited about my results. Clearly, from the happy faces today, everybody’s hard work has paid off”
Owen Baxter, Andrew Brown, Wan-Kiu Lai, Jonathan Matthews, Abbie O’Neill, Syan Patel, Katie Philips, Mille Thomas and Chloe Tomes are all first year students who achieved A/A* across all of their subjects.
Jonathan Matthews who is from Hartshill said “My time here has been great. I’m very pleased with my results and thankful to my teachers who were always happy to help if I had a problem.”
Despite the national trend for a fall in A grade A level performance King Edward VI College has improved and continues to move up the league tables. 35 subjects – over half – at AS and A level have 100% pass rates including English Language, English Literature, Spanish, Accounting, Film, Music, Economics, Biology and Further Maths, to name just a few!
Paul Allred, Director of Sciences said “I am delighted that so many of our science students have got top grades and secured their places at University. These are thoroughly deserved after their hard work over the past two years.”
Congratulations also go to Nishant Patel who has accepted a sponsored degree with KPMG. Nishant will be studying at the University of Durham alongside working at KPMG in Canary Wharf. Nishant said ”there were a thousand applicants for the sponsorship and only 100 people were successful. After a rigorous process including psychometric testing and two interviews I was over the moon when I was offered the place.”
It is expected approximately 80% of second year students will now choose to continue their education at University. Among them is Jake Croft who will be studying History at Oxford University and Laura Smyth who will also be going to Oxford to study History and Politics. Alicia Ayres who has an unconditional offer to study Biomedical Science at Birmingham University and Megan French will be studying Medicine at Bristol.
“I hadn’t been a high achiever before I came to KEGS. However I came here and I aced it! I couldn’t be happier.” Said Jake Croft who is from Nuneaton.
David Butcher, Assistant Vice Principal said “King Edward’s has the widest curriculum in the area for 16-19 year old young people and 40 years of experience in helping a broad range of students move on successfully to the next step in their lives. This set of results confirms the confidence Ofsted showed in giving us a Grade 2 across all our provision in May this year.”
