King Edward VI College in Nuneaton has cause to celebrate again this year with another fantastic set of results.
The college was proud to announce the pass rate for A level this year was 99% with almost half the students achieving an A*- B grade and 36 subjects achieving a 100% pass rate.
The BTEC subjects also excelled with 100% pass rate in all 24 subjects and over 77% of students achieving high grades of Distinction* or Distinction, equivalent to an A* or A at A’ level.
Principal Uly Lyons said “The college is going from strength to strength. Our students have achieved another strong set of results across all areas of the curriculum. Our excellent pastoral and teaching teams work with each and every student to ensure they perform at the highest level and are ready to be successful at the next stage of their career. As a result of this support many are progressing to top universities and others have gained places on very competitive higher apprenticeships or full time employment.”
160 students achieved at least one A*/A and 23 students achieved straight A’s in all their subjects. Notably 2nd year students Owen Baxter, Sinead Behan, Andrew Brown, Holly Hutchby, Ella Johnson, Jonathan Matthews, Georgia Millington, Abbie O’Neill, Syan Patel, Katie Phillips, Millie Thomas who achieved A/A* in all their subjects.
Ella Johnson, who is from Nuneaton, achieved straight A’s in English Language, Classic Civilisation and Religious Studies. Ella is now going to study Philosophy at Durham University.
Andrew Brown, a second year student from Hurley, is now off to Keele University to study Medicine after achieveing straight A/A*’s in Biology, Chemistry and Law. Will Batchelor from Fenny Drayton achieved 3 A’s and a B and is going to Keele University to study Film and TV Production. Will said “Going to KEC to do my A levels was one of the best decisions I’ve made and with the help of amazing staff I have exelled!”
Holly Hutchby came to KEC after doing a year of A levels at Polesworth school. Holly has now achieved 2 A’s and an A* in Business, Sociology and Government and Politics. Holly is now off to the University of Birmingham to study Political Science. Holly said “When I came to KEC it was a totally fresh start, I felt more grown up and thrived on the feeling of being more independent. It was the best move I could I have made and I am so pleased with my results!”
There are also a number of first year students who achieved straight A’s; Jonathan Flint, Christopher Herdman, Benjamin Mackenzie, Adam Mills, Crystal Nkrumah, Lauren Rumble and Sophie Watson.
Crystal Nkrumah came to the UK 3 years ago and had to work on developing her English alongside studying for her A levels. Achieving 4 straight A’s in History, French, Law and Philosophy Crystal said “I’m so glad I had the support I needed from the college to achieve these grades”
Approximately 75% of second year students will now choose to continue their education at University. Among them is Gurpal Khera who is going to Oxford University to study Sanskrit. Gurpal, a former Nuneaton Academy student said “It was the staff at KEGS that encouraged and supported me with my application to Oxford. It is a huge step towards my aim to have a career in International Development.”
Uly concluded “We are confident that our consistently strong track record with over 40 years experience as a Sixth Form provider should help convince a great many of those completing GCSEs this year to give serious consideration to making KEC their next port of call.”
