The Nightingale Clinical Skills Project is an enrichment activity that is provided each half term. The course runs for 6 weeks, with sessions being 1 hour each week.

Students can expect to enjoy an interactive session, experiencing clinical skills that would be carried out in nursing situations.

Sessions are designed to be enjoyable and often students will work in pairs.

The environment is safe and no pressure is placed on students to perform, but a have a go attitude is essential to gain maximum benefit.

Sessions include:

  • Dealing with unconscious patients in a hospital and community setting.
  • Anaphylaxis management
  • Resuscitation and airway management
  • Use of a defibrillator
  • Giving injections and medication administration
  • Suturing and wound closure
  • Hand hygiene and dressing techniques.
  • Nursing observations and the NEWS scoring systems

The sessions offer students a flavour of nurse training and what that might entail, which can lead to student deciding if a health career is for them.
