The Law Society

What is involved?

Students will prepare roles in a mock trial and research all relevant aspects of a criminal trial so that they can understand how the criminal justice system works. There will also be the possibility of being a part of the college Mock Trial Team in the regional heats.

Why should you do this subject?

The sessions will be based on preparing students for a mock trial. This will include researching areas of law; the roles of the people involved; analysing specific areas of criminal law; acting out roles in a criminal trial. Students will ultimately be able to know the process of a criminal trial and understand some of the skills required to be a lawyer in that process.

What employability opportunities would this LinC programme offer?

As already mentioned, there is a trip to the Crown Court but there is also the opportunity to be part of the college Mock Trial Team. There is also a barrister that comes in to help with the training of the barristers for the competition who will answer any questions that students may have.

How will it help you in your future career?

There is an obvious link to the legal profession, and this LINC session will help students to make a real decision as to whether law is the right direction for them to be heading.
