Why study Business (Level 2)?
The Route 2 Business Program is an OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Certificate in Business which is the equivalent to one GCSE. It’s designed to develop your skills and knowledge in key business functions. The program focuses on practical application of business concepts, preparing you for the working environment, and even for starting your own small business.
The curriculum for year covers three main units:
Unit 3: Financial Forecasting for Business: This unit teaches you to classify costs, revenues, and profit, and to predict these figures using forecasting techniques like break-even analysis and cash flow forecasting. It also covers analysing factors that affect these forecasts and evaluating their usefulness for a business.
Unit 4: People in Organisations: This unit develops career management skills, including career development planning, application, and interviewing techniques. It also focuses on understanding organisational “people resources” requirements, such as job roles, functions, and structures, and the documentation used to support these processes.
Unit 5: The Marketing Plan: This unit develops an understanding of marketing concepts and the ability to produce an outline marketing plan based on the 4 P’s (Product, Price, Place, Promotion). It also covers planning simple, costed promotional activities for a start-up business.
Who should apply?
This course is designed for students with an interest in understanding the core functions of a business, from managing finances to interacting with customers and employees. It is ideal for progression onto level 3 business for those considering careers in areas such as finance, accounting, human resources, marketing, sales, or general business management. If you are keen to develop practical skills in financial forecasting, market research, promotional planning, and effective communication within an organisational setting, this course will provide a strong foundation.
The skills developed are fundamental to further study and employment in business:
