Safeguarding our students is our priority

The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff, students and volunteers to share this commitment.

Safeguarding means;

  • Helping you to avoid being exploited by others and protecting you if you have been
  • Looking after your health and development
  • Ensuring your security, safety and care
  • Being alert to any difficulties that you may find yourself in and readily offering help
  • Protecting you if you are at risk from forced marriage or mutilation
  • Ensuring you are offered the best life chances
  • Protection from harm, abuse and neglect
  • Prevention of bullying and harassment, both in college and online
  • Helping you stay safe online
  • Being alert to exposure to extremist views and radicalisation and taking steps to prevent this
  • Working with other organisations to give you the support and care that you need

We have a Safeguarding Policy and other related policies that aim to meet this commitment.

Our policies cover:

  • All forms of abuse, including abuse by peers, and neglect
  • Prevention of discrimination
  • Anti-bullying and harassment
  • Promoting good  attendance and behaviour
  • Safety and security
  • Confidentiality
  • Policies related to drugs, smoking and alcohol

If you, as a student at the College have any concern about yourself or any other student’s well-being, safety or rights, then you should talk to one or more of the following:

  • One of our designated Safeguarding Officers
  • A Progress Leader
  • Progress Coach
  • A subject teacher
  • Or any other member of staff

The College will seek to fulfil its duty to prevent young people being drawn into radicalisation and extremism. The College will actively promote ‘British values’ of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, respect and tolerance of other faiths and beliefs and embed them in our safeguarding policies and everything we do.
